Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable, warm and dry weather (typical daytime highs around 78–85°F and evenings cooling to the low-to-mid 50s°F), making river swimming, boating on nearby Trinity Lake, and fishing on the Trinity River the most pleasant and accessible. Water activities, hiking in lower-elevation trails, and long daylight hours are at their peak, and the small seven-site campground still feels secluded on weekday stays though weekends are busier. Be aware of peak fire season and potential Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: January, February
Summer is 'the clear choice' with highs 78–85°F and warm river swimming opportunities.

Trinity River Campground provides a more primitive camping experience, featuring 7 single sites that include picnic tables and fire rings with grills for cooking. There is a vault restroom on-site, but there is no potable water available. Visitors must bring their own water. The campground operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, requiring visitors to physically claim and pay for their site on arrival. Payments can be made via an Iron Ranger with cash or check, or through the Recreation.gov app using the Scan & Pay option.
