No potable water on-site means hauling your own from town, and the closest reliable supplies are 11 miles away in Trinity Center or 41 miles in Weaverville. Under-maintained roads and 16-foot trailer limit rule out larger rigs.

<p>Located approximately 40 north on State Hwy 3 from Weaverville, this campground offers 10 units that can accommodate trailers up to 16 feet. There is no piped water.</p>

The elevation is 3,300 ft. The campground, pack it in, pack it out, has two sections. The smaller section is all walk-in campsites next to Eagle Creek. The larger section includes a horse corral and ends at Eagle Creek Trailhead. A pleasant combination of conifer and deciduous trees give ample shade to campsites as well as potential fall color. Interior campground roads are under maintained. Eagle Creek "roars" and can be heard throughout campground. There is not much privacy between campsites. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.

From Trinity Center, CA, take State Rt. 3 north 11.4 miles to campground sign.Turn left after sign onto Eagle Creek Loop and go 0.2 miles to a "T" intersection. Turn right and go 1 mile to another campground sign. Turn left at sign onto Forest Rt. 38N27 (dirt and gravel) and go 1.7 miles to a "Y" intersection. Bear right to main section of campground or continue straight to a walk-in only section next to Eagle Creek. NOTE: Last 2.7 miles are rough, single-lane road.

Fall delivers the best conditions. Daytime highs in the 50s to low 70s°F pair with crisp nights dropping into the 20s to 40s°F. Smoky conditions typically clear by autumn, improving visibility. Insect pressure drops, crowds thin out compared to midsummer, and trails stay comfortable for hiking or pack trips. The campground operates mid-May through October. Summer can hit 91°F during the day, while October mornings sometimes bring frost.

Horse Flat Campground offers dry camping with 10 units, four of which can accommodate trailers up to 16 feet. Restrooms are available, but potable water is not provided. Each site features a picnic table and a fire ring with a grill. The campground also includes a horse corral suited for 10 pack stock.
