The campground is currently closed per official sources, so anyone planning a trip now needs to confirm reopening before driving 37 miles from the nearest supplies in Weaverville with no water or hookups at the end of it.

Fall brings the best conditions: daytime highs in the mid-40s to mid-60s°F, nights in the 30s to low 40s°F. Mixed conifers and understory shrubs shift color, and creek flows drop to lower, clearer levels. Traffic falls off after Labor Day. Winter temperatures range from 27°F to 45°F. Summer pushes above 80°F with clear skies. Snow can block access in winter and early spring.
