Best season: spring. Spring offers the best mix of mild weather and river conditions for Junction City — daytime highs are often in the mid-50s to mid-70s°F with nights dipping to the mid-30s–40s, making hiking and camp comfort excellent. Snowmelt typically raises river flows, which improves fishing and paddling (more runnable water), and wildflowers and green canyon walls make the scenery at its peak; crowds are generally moderate compared with peak summer weekends. The campground is first-come, first-served ($10/night) with no reservations and will close in November or December, weather permitting. Potable water is currently unavailable for the 2023 season.
