AT thru-hikers or ridge-baggers who want a staffed summer camp with bear storage and a reliable spring nearby. The 12-person shelter fills fast, so arriving early or carrying a tent for the platforms is the move.
The cramped platforms put multiple tents within arm's reach of strangers, and reviewers are blunt: dispersed camping elsewhere on the ridge costs nothing and offers more breathing room. No potable water means treating everything from the spring.

Long daylight and stable weather make multi-day AT trips easier to plan, with morning mists burning off to reveal distant peaks. Weather changes quickly at this elevation. Snow patches can linger into May.
