Car campers, anyone expecting a privy or tap water, and anyone arriving without a confirmed plan for water treatment. Spring mud and late snow can make the approach genuinely miserable well into May.

Fall delivers the best conditions. Days run 40–60°F, nights drop into the 20s and 30s. The hardwoods and birch turn color, the pond mirrors the foliage, and bugs are gone. Spring comes late here, often keeping snow patches and mud on the trails into May. Summer warms enough for pond swimming but brings blackflies and mosquitoes. Winter is brutal and requires serious cold-weather gear, with the shelter buried in snow and accessible only to experienced winter hikers.
Overview: 'Fall delivers the best conditions' with 40–60°F days, vivid colors, and few bugs.
