Highway noise from Route 302 bothers you at night, or you're counting on flush toilets, showers, or a guaranteed site. First-come only means showing up without a backup plan is a real gamble on busy fall weekends.

Fall delivers the best conditions here. Daytime highs from mid-September through early October sit in the mid-40s to low-60s°F, with nights dropping into the 20s and 30s°F. Peak foliage usually hits late September to early October, drawing leaf-peepers to Route 302 and filling sites on weekends. Midweek visits during this window offer quieter access. Summer brings warmer days for riverside lounging and cool nights for fires. The campground closes mid-October through mid-May, when deep snow and frigid temperatures make the area impassable.
