Best season: summer. Summer offers warm, stable weather (daytime highs typically 65–80°F, nights 35–50°F) and peak access to the trail network, Hackleman Creek fishing, and wildflower meadows. Most amenities and the campground itself are open (site open May 22–Oct 18), so boating and group gatherings are fully available and water levels are pleasant for creek-side activities. Expect moderate weekend crowds—book in advance for the ten-site group campground—and be mindful of late-summer fire restrictions that can curb Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: November, December, January, February

Lost Prairie Group Site offers essential but limited amenities suitable for group camping. It features two double vault toilets, one older toilet near site #1 and one accessible toilet near the parking area. Drinking water is provided via a hand pump well, but user reviews highlight issues with the water quality: 'The water at the pump comes out rusty and with chunks of metal. We filtered the creek water, which was splendid, but I think folks should be aware the water is not potable.' Each campsite is equipped with picnic tables and fire pits/grills. The campground has creek access and a parking area capable of accommodating 3 large or 5 small RVs, with a maximum of 6 RVs. Firewood is not readily available on-site, and campers are advised to bring their own or purchase it from nearby vendors, although Linn County Parks staff may occasionally sell firewood at the campground.
