Hilltop Campground is a large site covering nearly 10 acres about an hour from Ennis. Located on top of the hill mid-way between Cliff and Wade Lakes, it's about a 3/4 mile steep, winding drive from the Cliff Lake road. There are 18 sites that are all shaded and quiet, away from the crowds at the lakes. Vault toilet and water are available at this site, however there are no bear resistant food storages boxes available here. We recommend that trailer length does not exceed 22'.

The elevation is 6,800 ft. NOTE: The West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park is 38 miles southeast of campground. The campground is located on a hilltop between Wade and Cliff Lakes among grand old pines. Although the campground sites do not have views of the lakes, the tranquility and gentle breeze makes it a pleasant stay. Bear-proof food storage lockers are provided. There is a significant drop along one edge of the campground. It is "protected" with a split rail fence but suggest adult supervision of children. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. A "Food Storage Order" is in place at this campground. This means all food must be properly stored in a bear-resistant container; suspended; stored in a closed, motor vehicle with a solid top; or, stored in a closed, hard-body RV. Not observing this Order may result in a substantial fee and prison.
Open late May through mid-September.

Summer brings mid-60s to mid-70s°F days with cool nights dropping to the 30s and 40s°F. June and July deliver peak wildflowers and active trout fishing, while longer daylight and mostly snow-free roads keep access manageable. Spring arrives late at this elevation. Winter buries the campground in deep snow and makes the site inaccessible. The high-elevation location means cooler temperatures than lower valleys, which is a bonus on hot afternoons but requires warm layers for evenings.
Mid-60s to 70s days, peak wildflowers and active trout fishing in June/July; prime season.
Hilltop Campground offers a mix of essential amenities, including vault toilets and potable water, with four water spigots available on-site. Picnic tables and fire grilles are provided at all 18 campsites. However, there are no showers, flush toilets, laundry facilities, or bear-resistant food storage lockers, which may be a concern for some campers. Garbage services are seasonal, available from May 15 to September 15.
