Lakes thaw completely by summer, and wildflowers hit their peak. Brief afternoon thunderstorms are common, so start day hikes early. Weekends fill up despite the primitive nature of the site. Arrive early or come midweek.

The lack of developed infrastructure is a defining feature, with visitors required to bring their own potable water and pack out all trash. The site offers picnic tables and restrooms, but potable water is explicitly unavailable. A bear-resistant food storage system is in place to ensure safety in this bear-frequented area. The site is accessible via a challenging road, and visitors are advised to check road conditions before arrival.
