Only five sites and no enforcement means long-term squatters regularly occupy spots for days. No toilets, no water, no signage, and a rough access road that reviews say will turn back camping trailers.

Fall offers the most reliable conditions. Daytime highs run 40–65°F with crisp nights, and late September through early October brings peak cottonwood and aspen color. Crowds thin after summer, and trout feed actively before winter. Mornings are quiet for loon and waterfowl viewing. Hunting season overlaps parts of fall, so wear blaze orange if hiking beyond camp. Winter access depends on snow conditions; check before driving in.
