Best season: fall. Fall offers the best combination of cool, stable weather and spectacular aspen color at this high-elevation site — daytime highs commonly range from the mid-50s to low-70s°F with nights dipping into the 30s–40s°F in September. Trails, water access, and fishing are excellent while crowds thin after Labor Day, so you get quieter campsites and better wildlife viewing (elk rut activity often increases sightings). Note the campground closes September 27, so plan an early-fall visit to enjoy peak leaf Peak months: September, July, August, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Aspen peak in September, quieter after Labor Day, reviewers cite fall as best time before closure Sept 27.
