Larger RVs or trailers won't make it down the narrow, rough access road. Privacy between sites is inconsistent, and a few reviewers flagged flashlight bleed from neighbors at night, so light sleepers on a crowded summer weekend may struggle.

<p>Located in the Rock Creek drainage, this campground is adjacent to Rock Creek, situated amongst ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir trees. This area is known for its blue ribbon trout stream and rugged canyon environment.</p>
The elevation is 4,300 ft. The campground is pack it in, pack it out and located on a flat between two talus slopes. Its understory is grassy with shrubs and shaded by mature Douglas firs and Ponderosa pines. Adjacent to the campground is the "blue ribbon" Rock Creek with some sites overlooking the creek. The sounds of running water and birds add to the tranquility of this rustic campground. It is a good location for fishing and wildlife viewing with sightings of Big Horn Sheep, bear and moose. Limited groceries and gas are at the intersection of Interstate 90 and Rock Creek Rd., 23 miles away.

The parking aprons are dirt. Rough, narrow interior road provides little maneuvering room for large RVs.
From Clinton, MT, take Interstate 90 east 4.7 miles to Rock Cr Rd. (Exit 126). At end of exit ramp, turn right onto Rock Creek Rd. and go 23 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground. NOTE: Rock Creek Rd. goes from a wide paved roadway to dirt at 8.3 miles. It then deteriorates into a winding, single-lane road with few turnouts.

Summer delivers the most reliable conditions: mid-70s to mid-80s during the day, dropping to the 40s and 50s at night. Trails are snow-free and creek access is easy. Best fishing happens early morning and evening. Expect moderate crowds on summer weekends. Late summer occasionally brings wildfire smoke that affects air quality. Spring and fall see colder nights, sometimes with surprise snow dustings.

Bitterroot Flat Campground provides basic amenities. Picnic tables and fire rings are available at each site. Restrooms are available, but potable water is not. A hand-pump spigot is present for non-potable water needs. "The toilets were very clean, and the campground itself was very well kept up," noted one user. There are no trash facilities, so this is a pack-it-in, pack-it-out campground.
