Best season: fall. Fall delivers the best combination of cooler, stable weather (daytime highs often 45–65°F, nights dipping to the 30s–40s) and spectacular color on the canyon and aspen slopes, with far fewer crowds than mid-summer. Trails are at their most pleasant for hiking and biking, fishing remains productive in many streams, and wildlife viewing is excellent as elk and deer become more active during the rut and migration. Cooler temperatures also reduce bugs and wildfire smoke risk, making evenings perfect Peak months: September, October, June, July Avoid: November, December, January, February
Fall described as best time: 45-65°F days, bright aspen colors and elk activity; bugs diminish.
