Section 1 sits in the wooded interior of Lake of the Ozarks State Park, the farthest camping area from the water. The park offers group sites and cabin lodging with electric hookups, picnic tables, and central water fill stations. Section 1 trades immediate lake access for deeper shade and a quieter feel.
Year‑round overnight accommodations include campsites as well as Outpost cabins and yurts; the park listing also includes Organized Group Camps.
Weather and SeasonsFall brings the best conditions: daytime highs between 50 and 75°F, cool nights for campfires, and hardwood foliage lighting up the bluffs. Boat traffic drops off compared to summer weekends, making the water calmer for fishing and paddling. Summer gets very hot, but the park stays open and showers run reliably. Off-season visits mean fewer neighbors and easier site selection, though some facilities may close. Spring wildflowers bloom along the trails before the humidity sets in.
Natural Features and SceneryThe sites back up to dense Missouri hardwood forest, giving each spot a semi-private feel despite close spacing. Some sites catch lake views through the trees, and non-lakeside spots like 140 still offer moonlit vistas over the ridges. Deer wander freely through camp. The lake itself runs murky most of the year, typical for Ozark impoundments, but blufftop trails above the shoreline show off forested hollows and undeveloped coves. Two sandy beaches and boat ramps provide access points a drive or hike away from Section 1.
