Boaters and lake families who can snag a Section 4 site early, especially in September or October when the crowds thin, the water's still warm enough to swim, and the oak-hickory canopy starts turning. Two boat ramps, shore fishing for crappie and bass, and a marina onsite.
Sites can be small, close together, and noticeably unlevel, so big rigs or anyone particular about pad quality should call ahead. Pack serious insect repellent for the Woodland Trail in summer, ticks and chiggers are not incidental.

<A HREF="http://www.usbr.gov/projects/Facility.jsp?fac_Name=Flatiron+Afterbay+Dam">Flatiron Dam</a> and Reservoir are located on Chimney Hollow Creek 8 miles southwest of Loveland, Colorado. The dam and reservoir are features of the <A HREF="http://www.usbr.gov/projects/Project.jsp?proj_Name=Colorado-Big+Thompson+Project">Colorado - Big Thompson Project</a>. One campground with 41 campsites. Access is good. THe reservoir has approximately 47 water surface acres, 248 land acres and 2 miles of shoreline. No boating currently allowed. Primary recreational activities include fishing and camping. Primary sport fish available are rainbow trout. Facilities and campground are closed in winter due to ice and snow.

Summer delivers reliably warm lake water and full park services, with daytime highs in the mid-80s to low-90s°F and humid nights. Afternoon thunderstorms and mosquitoes are common. Expect busy weekends and crowded boat ramps. Spring and fall offer comfortable temperatures, fall color in October, blooming dogwoods in April, and lighter crowds. September reviews call this one of Missouri's best state park campgrounds. Winter campers find solitude and still lake views but should prepare for limited services (some heated shower houses close, vault toilets only) and cold conditions.
