Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and best hiking conditions: daytime highs at this 8,270-ft site typically range from the mid-50s to low-70s°F while nights usually drop into the 30s–40s (cold snaps can plunge nights much lower). Trails and high meadows are generally snow-free by mid-July, wildflowers are at their peak, and the guard station campground is pleasantly uncrowded compared with lower-elevation trailheads. This is the prime time for day hikes, photography of the Wind River peaks, Peak months: July, August, June, September Avoid: December, January, February, March

The Sweetwater Guard Station Campground features three walk-in access campsites and an additional eight sites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. "Beautiful campground! No fee. Right on the river," described one user. The campground is ADA accessible, and there are gendered pit toilets available in a building with lockable doors. However, a common issue noted by visitors is the lack of cell phone service: "Be aware that you will literally have no service, which might be just what you want."
