Harry's Flat Campground, Rock Creek Road #102, Clinton, Montana
Fly fishers chasing rainbow, brown, cutthroat, and whitefish on Rock Creek will find this hard to beat. Grab the upstream loop for direct water access; come Friday morning on summer weekends or expect to find it full.
No potable water, no showers, and a road that reviewers flag as rough and narrow for trailers. Big rigs and anyone expecting hookups should look elsewhere on the corridor. Active reconstruction at the north end is currently cutting into available sites.

May 2023: Reconstruction work started in Harry’s Flat Campground during the summer of 2022 and will continue into the summer of 2023. The north end of the campground will remain closed until reconstruction work is complete. Upgrades include a hardened river access ramp, day use parking area for vehicles and boat trailers, vault toilets, new campsites, fire rings, and picnic tables. Reconstruction work is funded by fees collected on site, the Tri-County Resource Advisory Committee, and the Great American Outdoors Act.

Located in the Rock Creek drainage, this campground is adjacent to Rock Creek, situated amongst ponderosa pine and Douglas-fir trees. This area is known for its blue ribbon trout stream and rugged canyon environment.

The elevation is 4,100 ft. The campground, located adjacent to the "blue ribbon" Rock Creek and Welcome Creek Wilderness, is composed of two loops, "upstream and downstream." While only the upstream loop has water, the downstream loop is a bit more RV friendly and overlooks the creek. The campground is wooded with mature Ponderosa and Douglas fir. The understory and middlestory are thick with grass, bushes and young pines providing seclusion between spacious sites. The sounds of running water and birds add to the tranquility of this rustic campground. It is a good location for fishing and wildlife viewing with sightings of Big Horn Sheep, bear and moose. Limited groceries and gas are 17 miles away at the intersection of Rock Creek Rd. and Interstate 90.
Open May 1 through September 30
The water spigot is a hand pump.
The parking aprons are dirt. Although the interior road is dirt and narrow, the campground is surprisingly RV friendly.
From Clinton, MT, take Interstate 90 east 4.7 miles Rock Cr Rd. (Exit 126). At end of exit ramp, turn right onto Rock Creek Rd. and go 17 miles to campground sign. Turn right into campground. NOTE: Rock Creek Rd. goes from a wide paved roadway to dirt at 8.3 miles. It then deteriorates into a winding, single-lane road with few turnouts.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to mid-80s and nights in the mid-40s to mid-50s. This is peak season for fishing and wildlife viewing. Early mornings and evenings produce the best trout action. Arrive early on weekends to secure a creekside site. Spring runoff can flood portions of the campground.
