Best season: winter. Winter offers the most unique experience at Stony Cabin — a snowbound landscape (daytime highs typically 20–35°F, nights often below freezing) that’s ideal for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and quiet wildlife tracking along frozen Rock and Stony creeks. Snow softens the geology and accentuates Squaw Rock and the canyon walls, and visitation is low so you’ll have the historic 1914 cabin and trails to yourself. Be prepared for winter road conditions (chains or 4WD may be required) and bring a Peak months: February, March, December, January
Reviews note the cabin 'shines' in winter; warm wood stove and access to snow recreation praised.
