The elevation is 5,600 ft. The North Entrance to Yellowstone National Park is 48 miles south of campground. The campground is configured with two spurs. The lower spur contains eight sites along Mill Creek, one of which is a group site. The upper spur is on a hillside above Mill Creek. The campground is heavily wooded with mature spruce and fir, providing shade for most sites. The understory is thick with shrubs; tumble berry and raspberry are dominant. The interior Gallatin National Forest 219 road is narrow and rough with some low-hanging branches and tight turnarounds. Depending on RV size, getting from one spur to the other may require leaving the campground and returning. Firewood available for a fee. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques. “Possessing/storing food so bears/wild animals have access will result in a fine of up to $5,000 or six months imprisonment or both.”
Open May 15 through September 15
Parking aprons are dirt and gravel. See General Comments about the interior road.

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable weather and full access to trails, fishing on Mill Creek, and high-country day hikes from Snowbank's 7,930 ft trailheads — expect daytime highs around 60–75°F and cool nights in the 30s–40s. Wildflowers, berry bushes, and the full river soundtrack make creek-side camping and evening stargazing especially rewarding, while mountain bike and longer hiking routes are snow-free. Expect moderate to busy weekends in July–August, so plan midweek stays or reserve Site 12 ( Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Described as ideal for summer camping; best trail access, fishing and wildflowers in summer.
