No potable water is the real filter here. Car campers who want hookups, showers, or a host on-site won't find any of that. Eight sites fill fast on weekends with no reservations, so a backup plan is smart.

Fall delivers the most rewarding combination of cool, stable weather and showy color. Expect daytime highs in the 50s–70s°F and crisp nights in the 30s–40s°F from late September into October. Aspen and oak turn gold and red, creeks are low and clear, and wildlife is active. Crowds thin compared with midsummer. Check local hunting seasons and wear blaze orange on shared-use trails during big game seasons. Winter brings temperatures around 26°F with frequent snow. Summer sees comfortable 70s°F.
Fall provides showy color and cool, stable weather; described as most rewarding season.
