Summer offers the warmest, most reliable conditions for enjoying the campground's two lakes, with daytime highs commonly in the mid-60s to mid-70s°F and cool nights in the 35–50°F range at 6,400+ ft. Boating, swimming, and lake fishing are at their peak, and all trails and access roads are most likely to be open. Expect moderate weekend use—Hilltop has only 18 sites so it feels quiet compared with larger reservoirs, but holidays can fill quickly. Hilltop Campground provides a range of essential amenities aimed at enhancing the camping experience. Each of the 18 campsites includes picnic tables and fire rings. Campers have access to three potable water spigots scattered throughout the campground, and four rustic outhouses serve as restrooms. The campground is situated on a rolling hill surrounded by an old-growth Douglas Fir forest, offering a shaded and serene environment.
