No potable water at sites means every drop has to come in with you. Add a half-mile-plus cart haul each way, no pets allowed, and zero hookups of any kind, and this isn't a comfortable base camp for families with young kids or anyone who camps heavy.

Summer brings the most reliable conditions. Daytime highs run mid-60s to mid-70s°F, nights drop into the 40s and 50s. Lake breezes keep things cool even in July and August. Opening and closing dates shift year to year based on spring thaw and fall weather, so check the park's website before planning. Naturalist programs and full trail access run peak season, but weekends fill fast.
Summer described as most reliable with mild daytime temps and cool breezes.
