This 18-site campground sits directly on Lake Superior's cobble-and-sand shoreline, 12 miles from Grand Marais in Michigan's eastern Upper Peninsula. Sites are first-come, first-served and fill quickly in peak season. Amenities are rustic: vault toilets, hand-pumped well water, fire rings and picnic tables.
Rustic, first-come-first-serve lakeshore campground primarily for tent and small-trailer camping with some sites large enough for mid-size trailers.
Weather and SeasonsFall delivers the best combination of color, calm and solitude. Expect crisp days of roughly 40–55°F and cool nights dipping into the 30s, perfect for cozy campfires and clear stargazing. Shoreline winds often ease compared with summer, biting insects are gone, and hiking, wildlife viewing and shoreline photography are at their peak. Crowds thin after Labor Day so you're likely to have more of the lakefront to yourself while fishing and beachcombing. Summer brings biting flies and mosquitoes along with the warmth. Lake Superior writes its own weather rules year-round: wind, sudden changes, and water cold enough to shock. Winter visits are possible but roads and sites aren't plowed.
Natural Features and SceneryShort footpaths lead from nearly every site through low dunes to Lake Superior's beach. Sites nestle in mixed woods just behind the dunes, close enough to hear waves breaking on the cobble shore. Weathered driftwood and polished stones line the waterline. The North Country Trail and Blind Sucker Pathway run through the area. After dark, light pollution is minimal and the stargazing is exceptional. The lake itself stays cold year-round, hovering around 41°F even in summer.
