No showers on-site is a hard stop for many (a shower pass at the adjoining modern campground is the workaround), and if the hand pump is down, which reviewers say happens, you're hauling every drop of drinking water you need.

Summer is the best time to visit for warm, dry weather. Daytime highs run mid-70s to low-80s, nights drop into the 50s and 60s. River flows stay gentle and the water cools off overnight, making dawn and evening the best windows for fishing or paddling. Forest shade helps during hot afternoons. Expect moderate weekend crowds in July and August, but the 16-site loop stays quieter than the park's modern campground. Autumn brings color and even more solitude. Spring and fall shoulder seasons often mean you'll have trails to yourself.
Summer is best; shaded sites stay cool, river and lakes good for water activities.

Rustic loop with basic amenities: vault toilets and a hand pump for potable water. No electric, water, or sewer hookups; some nearby services (store, shower pass at adjoining park) are available off-site.
