Pike Lake State Forest Campground sits on the northwest shore of Pike Lake, 28 miles southwest of Newberry. The eight first-come, first-served sites are rustic. Vault toilets, a hand-pump well (which sometimes goes out of service), and no reservations. Most sites are lakefront with direct water access. The lake is no-wake, so kayakers and canoe paddlers launch right from camp.
A very small, rustic forest campground with eight sites for tent and small trailer use; first‑come, first‑served (no reservations); 15‑day maximum stay.
Weather and SeasonsSummer delivers the most reliable conditions. Daytime highs run mid-60s to mid-70s°F, nights drop into the 40s and 50s. The lake is calm for paddling, fishing is productive, and bugs ease off by late June. Expect moderate weekend use but plenty of weekday solitude given the small site count and first-come setup. Spring and fall bring classic U.P. unpredictability. Crisp mornings, warm afternoons, and the chance of sudden weather shifts. Winter closes the seasonal road and the campground isn't plowed, so snow-season access requires real preparation.
