No potable water on-site and no trash service are real logistical hurdles, and FSR 28 Rock Creek Road is currently closed for spring conditions, so the campground isn't accessible right now. Cash or check only at the fee box.

<p>This campground and adjacent picnic area complex is located alongside the fast-moving Rock Creek in a stand of mature Aspen trees. There are 10 sites of which 7 are dead end spurs and 3 are pull through sites. Length of sites varies from 20 to 40 feet. The sound of the creek can be heard throughout the campground with some sites located next to the creek. This campground/picnic area sits in a narrow mountain valley and is located fairly close to the town of Monte Vista. Fishing in the North and South Forks of Rock Creek and hiking on area trails. The elevation is 9,000 ft. The campground is located beside the fast-moving Rock Creek in a stand of mature aspen trees. The sound of the creek can be heard throughout the campground with some sites located next to the creek.

The parking aprons are grass and gravel.
In Monte Vista, CO, take State Rt. 15 south 2.4 miles to Rock Creek Campground/Forest Rt. 28 sign. Turn right onto Rt. 28 and go 2.5 miles to a "T" intersection (County Rt. 28). Turn left onto County Rt. 28 and go 12.1 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign into campground. NOTE: County Rt. 28 becomes dirt after 3.1 miles and single-lane in places.

Fall delivers the best conditions: aspen gold peaks late September through early October, daytime temps in the 40s-60s°F, nights dropping to 20s-30s°F. The campground stays open year-round, but winter and spring snow can make the access road impassable without high clearance or alternative transport. At this elevation, expect frosty mornings even in summer.

Rock Creek Campground is a small campground situated in a scenic narrow mountain valley alongside the fast-moving Rock Creek, surrounded by mature Aspen trees. The campground comprises 10 campsites with varying configurations: 7 dead-end spurs and 3 pull-through sites, with lengths ranging from 20 to 40 feet. The sound of the creek is a constant backdrop, adding to the tranquil setting. Despite its picturesque location, there are notable limitations in amenities. "No trash service or receptacles. Please pack out all garbage," as stated officially. Potable water is also not available on-site, which is a critical consideration for campers. Picnic tables are available at the sites, and there are restroom facilities, but flush toilets and potable water are not provided.
