Best season: summer. Summer at 9,500 ft is the clear peak: expect cool, comfortable days (roughly 50–75°F) and crisp nights (often 25–40°F), ideal for hiking, fishing the Conejos River, and wildflower viewing. Trails and access are reliably open after snow melt, and river flows have usually dropped to good trout-fishing levels by mid-June through July. Weekends can see moderate use but the site remains much quieter than lower-elevation reservoir campgrounds; plan for afternoon thunderstorms and bring warm layers for Peak months: July, June, August, May Avoid: January, February, March, April
Best season: 50–75°F days, prime fishing and hiking; fills on weekends and flies after wet weather.
