Best season: fall. Fall delivers the most rewarding visit: crisp, clear days (typically 40–60°F) and spectacular aspen color at 8,500 ft peaking in late September to early October, with nights often near freezing. Hiking, wildlife viewing (elk rut activity), and photography are at their peak while crowds are light compared with lower-elevation Colorado destinations. Expect stable weather windows for day trips but plan for early snow after mid-October and bring layers for chilly mornings and evenings. Peak months: September, October, July, August Avoid: December, January, February
Fall offers peak aspen color, crisp days, elk rut and excellent photography opportunities.
