Best season: summer. Summer offers the fullest access to the glacial cirque, reliably warm, sunny days and the best window for swimming, boating, and shore fishing on Castle Lake. Expect daytime highs roughly 65–85°F (18–29°C) with crisp nights often dropping into the 30s–50s°F (0–10°C), making early mornings and evenings perfect for hiking and wildlife viewing. Campsites are limited (only six), so weekends and mid‑July through August see the highest demand, but weekdays remain pleasantly peaceful. Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Summer offers reliable access and best lake conditions for swimming/kayaking.
Castle Lake Campground offers a primitive camping experience with limited amenities. The campground features 6 campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. Vault toilets are available on-site, but campers must bring their own water as no potable water is provided. The campground is not recommended for large vehicles or trailers. 'There are a couple of washrooms on site but with no water and hardly any maintenance,' according to one user review. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis and remains open from late May to early November, depending on snow conditions.
