No potable water, no trash service, and a rough access road with an easy-to-miss turn will frustrate anyone expecting developed amenities. Deer hunters fill it every fall, so autumn solitude-seekers should look elsewhere.

Summer is your best bet for access and comfort. The campground typically opens by early July, when daytime temperatures reach 60–80°F and nights drop to 30–45°F. Pack warm layers. The high, dry air makes for excellent stargazing on clear nights. Winter buries the area in snow and closes access. Spring and early fall can work, but expect variable conditions and prepare for cold.
Best access and comfort; open early July with pleasant daytime temps (60–80°F).
Cave Lake Campground offers basic amenities suitable for visitors seeking a lightly-used, rustic camping experience. Restrooms are available, but potable water is not provided. Fire rings are available for campfires, and campers are required to clean up after their dogs and themselves as no trash collection is provided.
