Go if

Fall campers who want near-solitude around a high Sierra lake will do best here. September mornings drop to the mid-20s but mosquito pressure is way down, the 20-plus nearby lakes are hikeable, and the waterside site is reportedly large. Bring every drop of water you'll need.

Skip if

Summer weekends with kids who want to swim: reviewers pulled 4-5 large leeches out of the lake, and dawn-to-dusk mosquitoes make waterside sitting miserable without serious bug protection.
