Chapman Creek Campground is located on the North Yuba River along Hwy 49 eight miles north east of Sierra City. There are 27 campsites with piped water and vault toilets. The campground overlooks Chapman Creek and a small meadow. It is surrounded by a forest of lodgepole pines.

Campground underwent logging operations in 2023 and will undergo restoration in the coming seasons.

The elevation is 5,900 ft. The campground has two overlapping loops. Some campsites overlook Chapman Creek, while others are beside a small meadow. A pleasant mix of fir and Lodgepole pine provide shade but little privacy. Adjacent to State Rt. 49, the campground is a popular overnight location with longer parking aprons on the inside loop. Gas, limited groceries, and a cook's night out (breakfast and lunch too) are available at Bassetts Station (3 miles west on Tahoe National Forest 311 State Rt. 49) - try the milkshakes and pies. All campsites have stone fire rings and some have stone ovens. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
Open May 5 through October 16
The parking aprons are gravel or dirt; interior road is narrow and paved.
From Sierra City, CA, take State Rt. 49 east 7.9 miles to campground on left.

Best season: summer. Summer offers reliably warm, dry days (typically 65–80°F) and cool nights (mid-30s to mid-40s°F), full campground access (open June 7–Oct 15) and the clearest skies for hiking, fishing, swimming and boating in the nearby Lakes Basin. This is when trails are snow-free, Chapman Creek has good flow from snowmelt but is safe for creekside camping, and alpine wildflowers are still visible early in the season. Expect moderate crowds on holiday weekends and the warmest water temperatures for swimming—n Peak months: July, August, September, June Avoid: November, December, January, February
Peak season: warm days, trails snow-free and creek flowing; logging issues persist during summer.
