<p>Sardine Campground is located 1 and 1/2 miles north of Bassetts on the Gold Lake highway and 1/2 mile south west on the Sardine Lake Road. It has 29 campsites- 15 have space for trailers. There is vault toilets and piped water. Sardine Campground is located in a lodgepole pine forest with Sardine Lake nearby for fishing and swimming. This area offers an abundance of beautiful high mountain lakes surrounded by scenic rugged granitic ridges and glacially serrated rock outcroppings. </p>

Best season: fall. Early fall (especially September) offers the best combination of mild daytime temperatures (typically 50–75°F), crisp nights (30s–40s°F), clear skies and dramatically reduced crowds compared with mid-summer. Water remains warm enough for paddling and fishing, alpine meadows take on late-season golds and the Sierra Buttes are especially photogenic in the lower-angle light. Trails are at their driest and trailheads less busy, making hiking, biking and wildlife viewing most enjoyable; be aware that Peak months: September, October, July, August Avoid: November, December, January, February

Sardine Lake Campground provides basic amenities and is operated by the Tahoe National Forest. Amenities include several single-family campsites and one double site equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring, and food storage locker. Vault toilets and drinking water are available. Firewood is not sold on-site, and campers are advised to protect local forests by buying firewood locally. The campground does not have showers, electricity, or sewer hookups.
