About the campground

The elevation is 6,400 ft. The campground, one of two in Silver Lake Recreation Area, is rustic and a single loop in a dense stand of mixed conifers with the creek-size Susan River on one side and a swampy part of Silver Lake on the other. While none of the campsites are along Susan River, all are within walking distance. There are several spots in the river where wading is possible. Silver Lake, a pleasant canoeing lake, is 0.1 miles west of campground. Insect repellent is recommended. The Caribou Wilderness is about 1 mile from the Lassen National Forest 139 campground where the Caribou Lake Trail is also located. This is bear country; practice safe food storage techniques.
