Willow Creek Campground is the best kept secret in northern California. This small campground (8 sites) is easy to find, easy to navigate in and out with small trailers and motor homes and never full. A tiny creek runs between the campground and the day use picnic area. Lots of shade trees muffle the sounds of the highway.

Water system is non-potable and posted BOIL USE ONLY

Best season: summer. Summer offers the most reliable access and warm, comfortable days for fishing, hiking to Terminal Geyser, and exploring the lake's rare floating bogs — expect daytime highs around 65–80°F and cool nights in the mid-30s to low-50s. Trails and the campground are fully open, water recreation is at its peak, and geothermal features on nearby routes are easiest to reach. Expect higher weekend use and limited bookings (restrictions begin June 24), but weekday visits remain pleasantly quiet compared to Peak months: July, August, June, May Avoid: September, October, November, December
Summer offers reliable access, comfortable temps (65–80°F), and full services.
