Best season: fall. Early fall offers the best combination of mild daytime temperatures (typically 50–70°F / 10–21°C), shrinking crowds, and peak scenery as late-summer grasses give way to golden understory colors and active wildlife. Fishing and hiking are at their peak—water is usually calm for boating and trout are feeding aggressively—while mosquitoes and mid-summer crowds decline. Note that the campground closes very early in October (Oct 2), so prime fall visiting is largely in September and early-to-mid-late Peak months: September, August, July, June Avoid: October, November, December, January
Explicitly noted as best season: mild temps, peak colors, fewer crowds and excellent fishing.

Fish Lake Campground offers a number of on-site amenities designed to enhance the camping experience. Among the highlights are drinking water, flush toilets with wash basins, picnic tables, grills, and a fish cleaning station. However, some reviews note that certain amenities are outdated or not functional, such as the fish cleaning station being 'busted' as of August 2023. A historic picnic shelter is available for use without reservations. While the site is generally clean, multiple user reviews point out issues with maintenance, such as bathrooms being 'unsanitary' or 'marginally clean' with cobwebs and spiders occasionally present. The campground also includes access to fire pits and BBQ grills.
