No potable water on-site, no door on the shelter, no reservations, and one site total, so anyone counting on a guaranteed bed or running water should look elsewhere before making the trip out.

Summer is the best window for visiting. Mid-50s to low-60s °F during the day, with 16 to 19 hours of daylight in peak season. The lake is calm enough for the skiff, trails are free of mud and ice, and bears, waterfowl, and eagles are active. Expect moderate crowds in July, but the remote location still offers solitude. Spring temperatures range from the low-30s to low-50s °F. December brings about 7 inches of snow and temperatures in the low-20s to low-30s °F.
Summer called best window: mild temps, long daylight, calm lake and trail conditions.
