Best season: summer. Summer offers the longest daylight, the mildest temperatures (typically highs in the mid-50s to low-60s °F and nighttime lows in the 40s), and the most reliable access to Lake Alexander for boating, fishing, and extended hikes. Water-based activities and wildlife viewing (bald eagles, seals near shore, frequent bear and deer activity along trails) are at their peak, and trails are generally snow-free. Expect more visitors in July—especially mid-month—but the cabin’s remote location still feels w Peak months: July, June, August, September Avoid: January, February, March, April
Prime season (May–Sep): mild temps, long daylight, trails snow-free and positive summer reviews.
Reservation tips, booking windows, and free cancellation alerts.
Lake Alexander Cabin is a primitive, pre-cut cedar, pan-abode style log cabin situated within the Tongass National Forest. It offers basic amenities for wilderness enthusiasts including wooden bunk beds without mattresses, a table, benches, and a wood stove for heating. The outdoor toilet facility is maintained, and firewood is typically stacked in a woodshed near the cabin, though availability is not guaranteed. Visitors must bring essentials such as drinking water, food, sleeping bags, cooking gear, and lighting. The cabin lacks running water and electricity. Firewood must be sourced locally due to invasive pest regulations. Water from natural sources must be treated before use.
