No potable water on-site means hauling everything in, and the nearest store is over an hour away. Tent pads flood on some sites during heavy rain, there are no showers, and the gravel access road is rough enough to matter.

Late September through early October brings the best conditions: crisp days in the mid-40s to mid-60s°F, nights dropping into the 20s and 30s. The hardwood canopy explodes in color, insect activity drops, and wildlife viewing peaks as animals prepare for winter. Holiday weekends see moderate crowds. Spring and fall both deliver sudden rain, and several tent pads flood during heavy downpours. Summer nights stay cool at this elevation. Winter closes the campground with impassable roads and heavy snow.
Peak foliage season is a major draw; reviewers note spectacular fall colors and crisp weather.
