Anglers who pack in all their own water and gear will find a genuinely quiet lake stocked regularly by West Virginia DNR, a concrete boat ramp for motorized boats, and summer highs that stay comfortable in the 60s-70s.
No potable water on-site means hauling everything from Bartow, 2.8 miles out. After December 1, toilets and trash service disappear too, and snow can close the road entirely through winter.

Summer brings the most comfortable camping, with daytime highs in the mid-60s to low-80s and nights in the mid-40s to mid-50s. Roads stay clear, water temperatures warm enough for early morning and evening trout fishing, and weekends remain relatively uncrowded. Winter can close access roads with snow. Spring and fall offer good fishing temperatures, though you'll need to plan around weather.
Summer temps comfortable (mid-60s to low-80s); roads stay clear — best season per overview.
