Five first-come-first-served sites means real odds of driving out to find nothing available, long-term campers occupying spots is a recurring complaint. No potable water on-site, so bring everything you'll drink.

Fall delivers the best conditions here. Mid-September through October brings daytime highs around 50–65°F and nights dipping into the 30s–40s, with brilliant reds and golds lighting up the canopy. Weekdays stay pleasantly quiet even during peak color, though hunters use the area and weekend crowds spike. Spring offers crisp mornings for hiking. Summer gets humid at this elevation, and winter brings occasional snow and frosty mornings that require a warm sleeping bag.
Fall described as best: mid-Sept–Oct temps ideal and 'Fall color here was fantastic.'
