No potable water and no restrooms is a hard stop for groups that need facilities. Petersburg is 20 miles out, so resupply runs aren't casual, and the one-site setup means if someone else has it booked, you're done.

Fall is the standout season here. Mid- to late October brings peak leaf color that contrasts sharply with the gray limestone, and daytime temps run 55–70°F with nights dropping to 35–50°F. Water levels are lower and clearer, good for wading and targeting smallmouth bass or trout. The cooler, drier conditions also make hiking and photography more comfortable than the humid summer months. Crowds thin out compared to peak summer weekends, which matters when you're sharing one primitive site with your group.
