Spring delivers the most rewarding combination of mild daytime temperatures (around 65–70°F) and cool nights (mid-50s°F), plus the peak wildflower displays in the meadow approaches and lakeshore. Trails are generally in excellent condition for hiking and wildlife viewing before summer afternoon thunderstorms begin, and the campground feels quiet compared with high-summer weekends. Expect fewer crowds and excellent photography lighting—bring layers for chilly mornings and an occasional late-snowy Peak months: May, June, July Avoid: January, February

The High Knob Campground is a first-come, first-served recreational facility. Once campers arrive on-site, they may pay by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov app, which is recommended to download beforehand as cellular service in the area may be limited.
