Best season: fall. Fall delivers the iconic Appalachian spectacle here — brilliant maples and oaks light up the valley and ridge views along Big Walker Mountain are at their most dramatic. Expect crisp days in the 50s–65°F and chilly nights in the 30s–45°F, ideal for long hikes, photography, and trout fishing as creeks clear after summer; weekends around peak color can be busy but midweek still feels secluded. Hunting seasons run in parts of October–November, so wear blaze orange on trails and check local dates; a Peak months: October, September, May, June Avoid: December, January, February, March
Marquee season: dramatic maple/oak color and peak ridge views; highly praised in reviews.
