Hopper Creek Group Camp is a U.S. Forest Service group site in the George Washington & Jefferson National Forest foothills near Natural Bridge Station. This small, seasonal campground offers primitive tent camping with vault toilets, showers, fire rings, and picnic tables. Visitors hike nearby trails, fish local waters, and enjoy the privacy and spaciousness of a dedicated group setting surrounded by hardwood forest.
Hopper Creek Group Camp is exclusively designed for tent camping, offering a large group site accommodating up to 50 people. It does not support RVs or other forms of camping.
Weather and SeasonsBest season: fall. Fall offers the most striking experience at Hopper Creek — crisp days (typically 40–65°F) and cool nights set the stage for peak hardwood color, usually mid-to-late October at this elevation. Hiking, photography, and wildlife viewing are at their best as vistas and creek corridors blaze with reds and golds while insect activity drops. Natural Features and SceneryThunder Ridge rises above the campground, part of the Blue Ridge Mountains formed by ancient continental collisions. Crystal-clear streams carve through the landscape, their banks lined with moisture-loving ferns while mountain laurel clings to exposed slopes. Towering hardwoods and evergreens create dense shade across the site. The terrain varies from creek bottoms to gentle slopes, supporting diverse plant and animal life. Mountain vistas appear through gaps in the canopy.
