Go if

ATV riders and trout anglers get the most out of this place. Grab a spur-section site near the creek for actual shade and privacy; the loop is wide open. RV pads were leveled in 2022 and handle modern rigs fine. Bring your own water storage, since you're working off a hand pump.

Skip if

No potable water on tap and no dump station makes this a hassle for anyone expecting full-service camping. The loop sites sit exposed to ATV dust during busy weekends, and the first-come system means you might drive 19 miles from Hill City to find it full.

About the campground

The elevation is 6,300 ft. The campground is in a valley alongside Ditch Creek and is delightfully peaceful and picturesque. It has two sections. One section is a single loop with most sites in the open; there is little shade and privacy is fair to poor. The other section is a dead end spur with good shade and privacy. Tall beautifully shaped Spruce pines surround the campground. Most campsites are in the open. Ditch Creek can be heard throughout campground.
