Low-clearance vehicles, RVs, or anyone expecting amenities beyond a vault toilet and fire ring. Sites are small, close together, trash management has frustrated multiple reviewers, and FR 223 has stopped cars cold mid-road.

Summer brings the most reliable access and warmest conditions, with daytime highs around 60-75°F and nights dropping into the 30s and 40s. Plan hikes for mornings: afternoon thunderstorms are common from late June through August. The 9,000-foot elevation means the season runs roughly May through November, though spring lingers late with possible snow patches into June. Fall turns the aspens golden but can bring early snow. Rain turns the dirt access road muddy temporarily.
Most reliable access and warmest temps; daytime 60–75°F ideal for camping and hiking.
