Trails and fishing peak from late June through August, though afternoon thunderstorms roll through regularly in July and August. Snow can linger into early June at this elevation and return by mid-September. The high-altitude sun burns fast. Multiple reviewers flag sunscreen as essential. Winter buries the road and closes the campground entirely.
