Best season: fall. Fall offers the clearest skies, crisp daytime temps and peak aspen color — the main draw at 8,179 ft — making photography, day hikes and quiet dispersed camping outstanding. Expect daytime highs roughly 45–65°F in September–October with nights dropping to near freezing (20–35°F), so layered clothing is needed. Crowds are generally light on weekdays and modest on fall weekends; be aware of hunting seasons (October–November window) and wear blaze orange when hiking during those times. Peak months: October, September, June, May Avoid: December, January
Best conditions: clear skies and peak aspen colors in Sept–Oct.
